On This Day: The Hunchback of Notre Dame

June 21, 1996 came the story of a bell-ringer named Quasimodo and his journey to assert his independence and helping  his friend, a gypsy dancer named Esmerelda. In honor of this Disney classic here are some fun facts you may or may not know.


1.While Quasimodo sings “Out There” the camera pans over Paris and zooms in on a street, where you can catch a glimpse of Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Pumbaa (The Lion King) and a man shaking out Carpet from Aladdin.


2. Esmeralda is barefoot the whole movie.

3. “Hellfire” is one of the darkest Disney songs ever written and it was nearly cut out from the film.

4. The Hunchback of Notre Dame was the last Disney animated film to use very mild bad language (hell, Damn).


5.Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi were considered for the role of Frollo.

6. The Gargoyled put a wig on Quasi during the song “A Guy Like You” the wig is similar to the one that Tom Hulce wears in Amadeus(1984)


7.Frollos horse is named Snowball

8. As the soldiers fall after Quasimodo pulls the rope they were climbing you can hear Goofy holler


9. This was former Disney CEO Michael Eisner’s favorite film.

10. Hunchback of Notre Dame is the 34th full-legnthed film from Walt Disney.
