Happy Summerween 2023 Day 2!
I was able to finish The Hollow Places this morning. I was exhausted and realized that I was rereading the same page for a good minute and decided I should finish it when my brain was functioning because it was such a good book. The book is 304 pages on the Books app. I was bummed that I started it as late as I did and after a long day. I picked up the book again around 8:30 pm and finished it about 9 am this morning.
It is time for book two, The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. This book is set in the fall, which allows me to cross off another prompt for this readathon.
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White:
Elizabeth Lavenza hasn’t had a proper meal in weeks. Her thin arms are covered with bruises from her “caregiver,” and she is on the verge of being thrown into the streets . . . until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, an unsmiling, solitary boy who has everything—except a friend.
Victor is her escape from misery. Elizabeth does everything she can to make herself indispensable—and it works. She is taken in by the Frankenstein family and rewarded with a warm bed, delicious food, and dresses of the finest silk. Soon she and Victor are inseparable.
But her new life comes at a price. As the years pass, Elizabeth’s survival depends on managing Victor’s dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim, no matter how depraved. Behind her blue eyes and sweet smile lies the calculating heart of a girl determined to stay alive no matter the cost . . . as the world she knows is consumed by darkness.
This book is 305 pages on the Kindle App. I was excited to start this read because I adore Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. So far, this book has not disappointed me, and I am enjoying it. Is it because of the book? Or is it because of my excitement to return to the world of Frankenstein? I don’t know, but I am having a blast reading The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. I will make tea and sit on the porch with a blanket and my cuddle bug for the last 100 pages.
