Love Yourself 2024: Day 8

Hydration!

This may seem a little silly because hydration should be a second nature habit but for most people (like me) it’s not.

Why is hydration important?

  • Your body depends on water to survive. Your body uses water to maintain temperature, remove waste, bringing nutrients to your cells, protecting joints and organs.

Why is hydration important for mental health?

  • Water facilitates signaling pathway and nutrients delivery to the brain, removes toxins and inflammatory markers and provides energy sources for brain, and thereby improves brain function.
  • You are not in a mental fog.

Staying hydrated is great for you over all well being. I can sadly say, that I am TERRIBLE at drinking water and just being hydrated. I have gotten better though, but I have been admitted to the hospital a couple of times for severe dehydration. It is not fun at all and not good for your body at all. There are things that I do to help prevent being dehydrated.

  1. Cups
    • I have a Stanley Cup that I keep with me at all times. It is 40oz and I find myself filling it up at least twice a day, which for me is a HUGE improvement.
  2. Electrolytes
    • Ultima single packets
    • Smart Water
    • Gatorlyte
    • Pedialyte

I like to keep electrolyte powders on me at all times because of how easily I dehydrate. These are just the products that work for me and taste descent. Do you have a favorite water bottle?
