Let’s Read!
Staying up for a 24 Hour readathon always seems like a great idea, BUT, sleep. When the clock struck 12 am, I was up and ready with my first book victim.
Kowabana: ‘True’ Japanese scary stories from around the internet: Volume One
In Kowabana: ‘True’ Japanese scary stories from around the internet Vol. 1 you’ll find over 100 raw Japanese tales of terror. These tales, originally posted anonymously to the internet and translated for the first time right here, paint a picture of Japan that most don’t see, and a horror most have never experienced. These are the ‘true’ terrifying tales told around the internet campfire by everyday people; warts and all. You’ll find tales of vengeful ghosts and yurei, murder and suicide, cursed objects and haunted shrines, abandoned buildings and crowded city trains, yokai and much, much more.
It was 384 pages long so it didn’t take all day to read, but I really enjoyed this book. Reading it in the dark, in the living room was probably the BEST choice I could have made especially because I got scared! The wind blew pretty hard and made a couple of the animatronics on the porch go off and it got me.
Claire’s grown up triple-checking locks. Counting her steps. Second-guessing every decision. It’s just how she’s wired—her worst-case scenarios never actually come true.
Until she arrives at an off-the-grid summer camp to find a blackened, burned husk instead of a lodge—and no survivors, except her and two other late arrivals: Reyva and Mariana.
When the three girls find a dead body in the woods, they realize none of this is an accident. Someone, something, is hunting them. Something that hides in the shadows.
Something that refuses to let them leave.
The Lake House 368 pages on kindle. This was not what I thought it was BUT I am absolutely glad that I read it. I would say it is more than YA survival story with a paranormal mystery element. I still enjoyed it but I thought it was going to be more of a horror story but it was a fun read.
A Reincarnated Witch Spells Doom vol. 1 – 5
On her eighteenth birthday, shut-in Sena Shirai finally works up the courage to leave the comfort of her home—only to be hit by a truck! Luckily, she has a second chance at life as a witch in another world, but the only spells she can use are “explode” and “perish.” Unable to control her destructive power, Sena is shunned by the nearby villagers and doomed to live in isolation once again. But when a mysterious boy collapses at her doorstep on her (second) eighteenth birthday, will her fate finally turn around?
I absolutely adored this as it went on. I will say although the vol. 1 didn’t fully capture my attention at first by vol. 5, I was completely obsessed.
I took a quick nap around 12 pm before grabbing some food and continuing reading. I am planning on reading until midnight again, these are the books that I am hoping to get too.
