Halloween Cow!
I have been OBSESSED with crocheting baby cow’s and thought to myself, why not make a Halloween baby cow? I am going to use White and Orange. You can use whatever color you think screams Halloween to you. I did make a white and dark purple too.
What you need:
- 5.0 MM Crochet Hook
- White Chunky Yarn
- Orange Chunky Yarn
- Stuffing
- Scissors
- Stitch Marker
- 12 MM Safety Eyes
- Yarn Needle
Abbreviations:
- SC – Single Crochet
- INC – Increase
- DEC – Decrease
- MR – Magic Ring
- CH – Chain
- BL – Back Loop
Notes:
- I will be using US terminology
- White yarn will be referred to as A, Orange Yarn will be B
Pattern:
White – A
Orange – B
Head:
- R1: MR 6 SC (6)
- R2: 6 inc (12)
- R3: IN B: sc, inc, IN A: (sc, inc) x 5
- R4: IN B: 4 sc, IN A: 20 sc (24)
- R5: IN B: 4sc, IN A: 20sc (24)
- R6: IN A: 9sc, IN B: 2sc, IN A: 13sc (24)
- R7
- IN A: 8sc, IN B: 4sc, IN A: 12sc (24)
- R8: IN A: 8sc, IN B: 4sc, IN A: 12sc (24)
- R10: IN A: (2sc, dec) x 6 (18)
- R11: IN A: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
Safety eyes between R8 and R9, 7 stitches apart. The right eye should be on the orange spot.
Finish off and add stuffing, leave a tail for sewing.
Front Legs (2x):
- IN B
- R1: MR 6sc (6)
- R2: (2sc, inc) x 2 (8)
- Switch to A
- R3 – 5: SC for 3 rounds (8)
Finish off, add a small amount of stuffing.
Body:
- IN A
- R1: MR 6sc (6)
- R2: 6 inc (12)
- R3: (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
- R4 – 6: SC for 3 rounds (18)
- R5: Fold the first font leg in half, and do 4sc through the top 4 stitches of the first leg and into the body. Then do the next 4sc into the top of the next leg. 10sc around the rest of the body. (18)
- R6: (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
- R7: SC around (12)
Add stuffing and finish off!
Back Legs (2x):
- IN B
- R1: MR 6sc (6)
- R2: (2sc, inc) x 2 (8)
- Switch to A
- R3: SC round (8)
- R4: (2sc, dec) x 3 (6)
Finish off, leave a tail for sewing.
Ears (2x):
- IN B
- R1: MR 4sc (4)
- R2: 4in (8)
Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Here you can add orange on the inside of the ear if you want it to pop a little more, but this is completely optional
Snout:
- IN B
- R1: CH 5
- R2: 3sc, 2in into last stitch. (10)
- R3: 3sc, 2in into last stitch (10)
- R4: SC in BL all the way around. (10)
Finish off, leave tail for sewing.
I like to add two little black lines to the snout. This is completely optional, I personally love how it looks.
Horns (2x):
- IN B
- MR 4sc (4)
- R2 – 3: SC on each stitch
Finish off, leave tail for sewing.
Assemble:
- Sew the head to the body. R11 of the head to R7 fo the body. This should have 12 stitches on each so line them up and sew π
- Sew the top of the snout between R7 and R8. The top of the snout should align with the bottom row of the eyes. Add a small amount of stuffing and finish sewing.
- Sew the ears at R4-R6 of the head. The left ear should be over the start of the patch.
- Sew the horns right behind the ears, but inwards towards the middle of the top of the head.
- Sew the back legs so that they stick outwards, like the baby is sitting. It should be right behind the front legs. Add stuffing as you sew them to the body.
You should have the cutest, little spooky baby cow. I absolutely LOVE how they turn out and yes, I may have a fleet of them sitting on my couch, but they are so simple and adorable to make. Pleas share your photos if you decide to make one yourself. I would love to see your creations!
