I LOVE this museum, almost as much as I love the Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio. The Hiller Aviation Museum is in San Carlos and I think it is worth the drive.
They have so much to look at plus hands on experiences which is always so much fun. One of my favorite things to do is the paper plane launcher. It is simple but always a great laugh. I went here when I was in middle school for a school field trip and have made a few stops after because I was in love. I love looking at the different planes, how they work, the evolution of them and the museum itself. Honestly, there is something for all ages and I can guarantee you will find something that you like there.
