Magical Rewind: Tru Confessions

Tru Confessions (April 5, 2002)

When a local TV station launches a filmmaking contest, teenager Tru Walker (Clara Bryant) enters in a heartbeat. Her life seems full of drama to document — including a surgeon father who’s never there and a mother, Ginny (Mare Winningham), who seems as if she isn’t there even when she is. In the end, Tru chooses to make a film about her mentally impaired twin brother, Eddie (Shia LaBeouf). But as airtime nears, Tru fears how others will react to her rather personal story.

I would say Tru was the OG vlogger. She had her camera out, documenting her life. While rewatching this I wondered if this is where Disney got the idea for Good Luck Charlie. Anyways, Tru confessions is adaptation from the novel True Confession by John Gregory Dunne which is loosely based off of the 1947 Black Dahlia murder case. I did feel Tru’s frustration as she felt her parents were never there for her, and not seen. I think with the film portrayed how she felt through the screen because I definitely teared up a bit. Definitely check it out if you haven’t already.
