Homemade Apple Cider
It is time to make the most delicious homemade apple cider ever! Why is it the best? Because you can make it your own.
Ingredients:
- 10-12 Apples Quartered (mix of sweet and tart, fuji, gala, granny smith)
- 1 Orange, peeled and sliced
- 4 Cinnamon sticks
- 1 Tbsp Whole cloves
- 1 Tbsp All spice
- 1 Whole nutmeg
- 1/2 C brown sugar (honey or maple syrup to taste)
- Water (enough to cover the fruit in the pot)
Instructions:
- Cut apples into quarters (no need to core or peel)
- Slice the orange and peel it to avoid any bitterness
- Place apples, orange, cinnamon, cloves, all spice, nutmeg and sugar into large pot
- Add enough water to cover fruit
- Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours stirring occasionally,
- Mash fruit gently with a potato masher to release juices
- Let it simmer for another 30 minutes
- Strain liquid through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a clean pot or pitcher
If you would like to use a slow cooker, add everything to a slow cooker cooking it on low for 6-8 and strain. I personally prefer the slow cooker way BUT I will also make it in a pot just because I feel like it and it is faster. Occasionally I will add some caramel because who doesn’t love a caramel apple cider? Anyways, I hope you enjoy this recipe!
