Autumn Leaves 2025: Day 12

Homemade Apple Cider

It is time to make the most delicious homemade apple cider ever! Why is it the best? Because you can make it your own.

Ingredients:

  • 10-12 Apples Quartered (mix of sweet and tart, fuji, gala, granny smith)
  • 1 Orange, peeled and sliced
  • 4 Cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Tbsp Whole cloves
  • 1 Tbsp All spice
  • 1 Whole nutmeg
  • 1/2 C brown sugar (honey or maple syrup to taste)
  • Water (enough to cover the fruit in the pot)

Instructions:

  1. Cut apples into quarters (no need to core or peel)
  2. Slice the orange and peel it to avoid any bitterness
  3. Place apples, orange, cinnamon, cloves, all spice, nutmeg and sugar into large pot
  4. Add enough water to cover fruit
  5. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours stirring occasionally,
  6. Mash fruit gently with a potato masher to release juices
  7. Let it simmer for another 30 minutes
  8. Strain liquid through a fine sieve or cheesecloth into a clean pot or pitcher

If you would like to use a slow cooker, add everything to a slow cooker cooking it on low for 6-8 and strain. I personally prefer the slow cooker way BUT I will also make it in a pot just because I feel like it and it is faster. Occasionally I will add some caramel because who doesn’t love a caramel apple cider? Anyways, I hope you enjoy this recipe!
