Going to the Mat (March 19, 2004)

Jace is a talented musician and also blind. When his family moves from New York to Utah he must find another hobby which will help him make friends. He discovers wrestling is one of the few sports where blind people compete on the same level as sighted ones, so becomes a wrestler. As his team improves he learns valuable lessons about himself.

Khleo Thomas one of my childhood crushes, is in this movie and although the storyline is inspiring and heartfelt, my little kid heart was OBSESSED with Khleo. Watching it as an adult, I can see how frustrating life can be for Jace, but the people around him didn’t let him stop living his life even when it got tough. Although we can’t do things as easily as others, it doesn’t mean it can’t be done. You just have to find a different way. Also, kindness and being true to yourself can go a long way, even when you are scared.
