Depression!
Depression is such a sensitive topic. Most of the time people don’t understand that depression takes many different forms.
What is depression?
A serious, common medical illness characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, and low energy, lasting at least two weeks. Some symptoms include intense sadness, irritability, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and suicidal thoughts. Major Depressive Disorder (standard), Persistent Depressive Disorder (chronic low mood), Postpartum Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and Psychotic Depression.
There are many people who suffer from depression. Some can be the happiest person with the brightest of smile. Depression can be very scary because it affects each individual person differently. I found for me talking about it with someone you trust can be very helpful. I have some people very close to me who confide in me and I do everything in my power to help out. Sometimes, they just need to talk, others a small gift to show that they are still loved and cared for. A walk, a hug, any little thing can make the biggest of difference. I think that is one of the reasons why I truly love to give a gifts or even a smile. You never know what is going on in someones life and being a little bit nicer can save someones life.
If you are someones light and they trust you enough to confide in you, you have to make sure you are not only taking care of yourself and your mental health but you can also open the door to help them find a therapist to confide in along with yourself. Being there for someone shouldn’t make them a burden in your life or a person you don’t want to be around. I understand it can be overwhelming at times but that trust in you will never be the same if it is broken. So taking the time to take care of yourself before taking care of someone else is also very important. Take the time to talk to a therapist, go for a walk, do some yoga and breathe, We can always find the light whether is dull or super bright there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel.
