runDisney Shorts: 2018 Registration

Today I signed my mom and me up for the runDisney Shorts Celebrating Pixar! Because I am me, I had to sign us up for the series. When you sign up for the series you get finisher medal, magnet frame, resistance band, hot/cold pack, downloaded race bib, and finisher certificate. They did release a pin on the Shop Disney website, which I ordered to add to my running pin collection. I am also excited to see what other merchandise they will be putting out. Last year for Pluto’s Shorts Series I bought the shirt they had available.

file_341f9fac.jpgThe total miles is 9.3, and I plan on taking it nice and easy go to different spots near San Francisco with my pups and my mom because she helps keep me going, we motivate each other and it’s always fun having someone to run with. Plus shaking it up some with where we run instead of just our neighborhood will be a lot more exciting. We did map out some really exciting spots to get some miles in like Little Yosemite which is the place I am most excited about because it does have a lot some water falls that I am looking forward to running by. Will you be participating in this runDisney series? Let me know in the comments below!

runDisney 2018-2019 Registration Delay?!

runDisney just announced that registration dates will be delayed because they are working to create a streamlined race registration experience for participants. When you visit the runDisney page this is what pulls up:

Screen Shot 2018-04-10 at 9.25.10 AM

They say more information about registration will be released June 1. Personally this sounds like they may be “cancelling” race weekends until construction is over possibly because of the amount of participants concerns. I say this because this is kind of what happened to Disneyland’s race events and I have been hearing A LOT of concern about participating in the events while the parks are under major construction.

I did run during construction for the Dopey challenge and honestly, I thought the course was pretty much the same just more mud. I did get a few laughs on the course because during the last couple of miles construction workers were out yelling at the participants saying things like: “you guys aren’t doing anything pick up a shovel and make yourself useful”. What are your thoughts? Do you think they are going to cancel and Im just over thinking this entire thing and they really are on temporary delay to better registration? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

This is the third year of the Virtual Running Shorts and y third year participating and I LOVE IT! I get my runDisney miles in, I get to run with my puppies. Another reason I love these series, is my Nana gets the opportunity to participate in a runDisney event unfortunately, her legs aren’t strong enough to ‘run’ all the way through which she would like to do in a park event but non the less she is just as addicted to the bling as I am. Will you be signing up for this Virtual Running Shorts? Let me know in the comments below!

This Week In Disney!

There are two major updates that I feel need to be talked about, runDisney, Pixar Pier, and Pixar Fest!

Today, runDisney put out a post about Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend which has a lot of participants a bit uneasy. In the post Disney states that the W&D registration has been temporarily delayed and they will have an update on registration later this week for W&D race weekend on Nov. 1-4, 2018.

If you are familiar in the runDisney world then you know everyones concern, if you are not well this is a similar situation on what happened with Disneyland race weekend events. During construction at the Disneyland Resort they will not be hosting any runDisney events. Do you think they are going to put a temporary hold on W&D or race weekend events? let me know your thoughts and concern.

runDisney Tag!

runDisney, like I’ve always said, has completely changed my life and since its Medal, Monday why not do a tag about runDisney! So runners set GOOOOO!

  1. How did you first discover runDisney?

I first discovered runDisney when my family and I took a trip to Disneyland about 6 years ago. We were walking in Downtown Dinsey when my aunt shouted: “WHAT IS THAT AND HOW DO I GET ONE?” and the guy was really nice and answered her and then we signed up.

2. How many raced have you done?

8 events (some multiple times). 13 5k’s, 6 10k’s, 11 Half Marathons, 2 Full Marathons, 9 challenges, 3 virtual,  2 coast to coast and 1 castle to Chateau.

3. What was your first run?

The Inaugural Dopey Challenge in 2014. 48.6 miles and this was my first ever running event EVER. I also did not train at all nor did I break in my shoes…

   4. What was your favorite race weekend?

Dopey Challenge 2018 because I PR and I ran it with my mom. Plus Dopey was celebrating it’s 5 year anniversary which was also in a way celebrating my 5-year running adventure which I hope to continue.

   5. What was your least favorite run?

Disneyland Paris because I was so thrown off by the mile markers because they don’t use miles, but everyone was super friendly and encouraging like every other runDisney event.

   6. What was your favorite park to run through?

Hollywood Studios in WDW and Carsland in DCA.

7. What is your favorite runDisney medal?

Castle to Chateau medal. I think it’s GORGEOUS!

   8. What is your favorite shirt?

2018 Goofy’s challenge and a Half shirt because it reminds me of my favorite baseball team.

   9. What are 3 songs on your runDisney playlist?

Hey Princess (Allstar Weekend), I Can Go the Distance (Hercules), and Carrying the Banner (Newsies).

 10. Do you go for a PR or do you not worry about time?

I go for a PR, I find the longer I stay out on the course the more I get into my own head.

  11. Which character do you always stop for?

  12. What is your favorite pre-race meal?

Lucky charm marshmallows. I don’t like to eat before a run but if I do it’s the lucky charm marshmallows.

   13. Favorite costume you ran in?

Darth Maul. It was more of a Dinsey bound than an actual costume but I think it was close enough.

   14. Favorite costume you’ve seen someone else run in?

That is a tough one because everyone has AMAZING costumes but I will go with Thunder mountain because for the entire 10k she wore a mountain on her head and her body and there was an actual bobsled that moved around on a track. It was really cool.

I hope you enjoyed this runDisney Tag and let me know what your answers in the comments below!

runDisney/WDW Haul 2018!

The amount of merchandise I accumulated is insane. I honestly thought I was going to have to buy another bag just to get everything home. Thankfully, I was able to shove it all in my bag with only some complications.

To start off the haul is definitely 2018 New Years hat, I got when I first arrived at the hotel which I had to deconstruct due to the lack of room in my bag. Of course what follows the hat is the 6 running shirts I picked up at packet pick up. The Dopey Challenge shirt is definitely my favorite.

Over at the official runDisney merchandise, I thought it was my duty as a freezing participant that I buy everything that would keep me warm. So, I did…as you can tell, buy everything that would keep me warm! Plus, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy two new spirit jerseys that say runDisney and I runDisney on it. In my defense my Nani bought me one of them. I also had to buy The Dopey Challenge pin, its a tradition I started 5 years ago every event I do I have a pin to go with it.

Now for actual park shopping there wasn’t much I wanted except the WDW rose gold spirit jersey. The socks were a necessity that helped me keep my toes from frost bite. While eating at Cinderella’s Royal Table, I got a magic wand that I will treasure forever. I also bought 4 Nightmare Before Christmas Pins that look like the paintings that are in the stretching room of the Haunted mansion.

The Dopey Challenge 2018!

Honestly, I can not believe that I completed The Dopey Challenge once again. So back in 2014 my cousin and I signed up for the inaugural Dopey challenge, which was the start of my running journey. Having said that, it only felt right to celebrate my 5 year anniversary with the 5th year of the run that started it all. The only difference this year was, my mom took on the challenge with me.

If you don’t know what The Dopey Challenge is here is the run down: 4 days. 4 parks, 48.6 miles=6 medals. If you participate in the half and the full marathon you will receive the Goofy Challenge completer medal. If you participate in the 5k, 10k, Half and Full marathon, you will receive the Goofy completer medal as well as the Dopey Completer medal.

Its a tough but challenge and a lot of miles to run in just 4 days but let me tell you, its the most amazing feeling in the world when you cross that finish lines and they place the medal around your neck. This time was different, not only did I accomplish this crazy challenge for the second time but completing it with my mom is something I will never forget. She is truly my inspiration and the strongest women I know, completing 48.6 miles 3 months after having emergency surgery and completing it with a torn LCL that she did on the 10k.

Overall, the challenge was accepted, completed, amazing and of course freezing. It felt great running it, and even greater running with my mom by myself. Even though I fell in a ditch and broke my toe, the race must go on. Both my mom and I set a new personal record on all the races and we are ready for or Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon and of course more runDisney events because every mile is magic!

Star Wars Half Marathon is back?!

Yes the Star Wars Half Marathon has made its way back and I couldn’t be more excited! I know what your thinking there is no possible way because Disney took out all of their runDisney events until construction is over BUT it’s true!

Instead of bringing it back to the parks runDisney has decided to bring it back as a virtual Disney run for its first 13.1 virtual run. You get your medal, your bib and a certificate and knowing Disney they will have shirts to buy online.

RunDisney is also allowing guests to complete the Kessel Challenge where you run the Light side (virtual) and the dark side over at Walt Disney World to achieve the Kessel Star Wars coast to coast medal! Will you sign up for the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon? Let me know in the comments below!
