Blogmas 2021: Day 22

Holiday Parties with Puppies

I have been asked multiple times by friends and family how my littles react during parties. Since my littles are already chill little ones, it honestly doesn’t take much for them to stay calm around large amounts of people. They are used to different noises and smells and many people petting them. Whenever I host a party with many people in the house, I make sure my invitations say that my room is off-limits even though the door is open.

What’s available to the pups:

  • Safe Zone
  • Water
  • Food
  • Calming music
  • Pee Pad

What is a safe zone?

  • For my pups it’s a place they can go whenever they are feeling overwhelmed and need a break. It’s a place where my guests know my pups want to be left alone.

Where is their safe zone?

  • Their safe zone is located in my room. It’s their playpen area which is also connected to my bed.

What’s in their safe zone?

  • Water
  • Food
  • Pee pads
  • toys
  • beds
  • blankets
  • Lit area
  • a covered area
  • my bed
  • calming music
  • Heating blanket
  • Essential oil diffuser (lavender)

I also have cameras on them so when they do go in their I get a notification on my phone. I can check in on them without actually going in there and disrupting them. My guests know if they are in there not to go in there and not to call them out.

Tricks they know:

  • Leave it. I know I can leave food on the ground and they won’t touch it.
  • Wait. I know I can trust my littles NOT to run out the door if the door is open.

Useful Tricks:

  • Stay
  • Leave it
  • Wait
  • Go to bed
  • Drop it
  • Back up
  • Freeze
  • Come

These come in handy throughout the parties for many reasons, but I know I can tell them this, and they are on their tricks. What is something you do to keep your pups calm at parties?
