Today is the Dia de Muertos de la Mascota (Day of the Dead for Pets).
This is the start of Dia de los Muertos traditions that follows November 1 -2. What is Dia de Muertos de la Mascota? This day is to honor the spirt of pets, cats, birds and other animal companions who have crossed the rainbow bridge.
How to create a pet Ofrenda (altar), place a clear picture of your pet on the altar, add their favorite toys, collar, a leash or a favorite blanket. Use bright orange marigold petals and flowers to help guide their spirits home. Leave food and water to quench their thirst after the journey, alongside their favorite food or treat. Light a candle to illuminate their way back.
I have an altar year around but for the special day, the candle gets lit and their is a fresh bowl of water for those littles with their paw print pumpkins. I have six photos, Lil Bear, Bambi, Max, Kody, Tarzan and Coco. My lovies and who will always be my lovies. For me it is very emotional because each one of these puppers had made a great impact in my life and I absolutely love and appreciate each and every one of them for the wonderful memories we have made together.
