Blogtober 2026: Day 13

Puppy vs Decorations!

I have gotten asked by so many people how my pups are around all the Halloween decorations specifically the animatronics and fog machines or things that move. Its quite simple. They have been around them their entire lives and honestly, they are used to all of my shenanigans.

Animatronics:

The pups could careless about the animatronics, fog machines or literally anything we put out. The pups are very much involved in all of the decorating as much as I am. They see it when its all still in boxes, when it is getting put together, and of course when it is finished. We do have things on a sensor, a step pad and a remote. One of my favorite tricks I have taught the pups is “touch.” This comes in handy when we have step pads and I can tell them to “touch” and set off the animatronic. Its great because it is also super cute. They don’t get scared and don’t even flinch when they start doing their thing. No they also don’t pull, pee or damage the animatronic in anyway. They literally ignore them. Much like they ignore me with all of my craziness.

Fog Machines:

The fog machine stays on the ground and goes off every now and again and just like the animatronics, the pups don’t care about it at all. Even if they are our there with us and it goes off, they are not even phased by it. They don’t sniff it, they don’t pee on it, or care about it at all.

Other decorations:

I have had toys, things that moves, pumpkin patches with hay bails and like everything else we put out, they ignore it like the amazing pups that they are. They don’t fig or try and bury things in anything or steal any of the items that are out.

To be honest, when we first put everything out they are allowed to sniff and go through everything but they don’t. They go to their bed or come and lay by my mom or I while we organize and get things ready to display. We have painted in front of them and they have never once gotten into the paint or the supplies. Once everything is up out on the porch they still have full access as well. They can go in and out as they please and I don’t have to worry about them getting into anything they are not supposed to.

I think one of my favorite memories is when the house was taken over by spiders and we had an animatronic spider outside and Belle’s favorite spot was right underneath it. Since it was a jumping spider the base did move a bit, but her favorite napping place was under it even when it went off and people were screaming. She was sound asleep and in her own little world.

My pups are very strange and unusual, I understand that because things that would typically bother other pups don’t bother mine. They also don’t steal anything that isn’t theirs and they don’t have accidents. I trust them even with food. We keep the giant candy bowl on the couch where Belle sleeps and she again does not care about who is at the door or the candy bowl next to her. I am so thankful that my pups are the best littles in the entire world because they allow me to go crazy during the holidays and I know that they are safe because they won’t eat or get into anything they aren’t supposed to which makes for a happier Halloween.
